About
I’m Kris. I’ve spent most of my working life in marketing, across agencies, consulting, and in-house teams, with paid media and strategy sitting at the centre of it for a long time.
I like complicated problems, I pick things up quickly, and I’ve always liked looking beyond neat boundaries. If something affects the work, I usually want to understand how it works.
Big picture, details included
I’m comfortable thinking about the business problem, setting strategy, and working with senior stakeholders. I like staying close enough to the work that I can open the platform, look at the data, test an assumption, and see what works. I also love working with specialists and experts, and getting into genuinely technical conversations when they matter.
That combination has taken me through marketing, analytics, operations, technology, measurement, and more than a few unexpected rabbit holes over the years.
I don’t think seniority requires being the best specialist in every room. But I do think it helps to understand the work well enough to recognize what matters, ask better questions, and get to the substance quickly.
A bit of background
I’ve worked on different sides of the table, from agency environments and independent consulting to client-side marketing, with organizations ranging from small nonprofits and local businesses to major national advertisers. Each brought its own challenges, much to my delight.
Nonprofits and mission-driven organizations have been a particularly consistent part of that work, and remain an area I care about.
There’s a fairly serious academic foundation underneath all of this too. I studied economics and marketing at the University of Ljubljana, and completed a master’s in marketing at the University of Manchester. The tools are certainly evolving rapidly, but quite a lot of the underlying business and marketing thinking hasn’t.
Outside work
I like making things and tinkering. Sometimes that means DIY projects, sometimes repairing something that probably would have been easier to replace, and sometimes disappearing into 3D printing for considerably longer than intended.
If I’m not doing that, I’m probably overthinking the optimal move in some strategy or board game.
There’s a creative streak in there too. I spent part of my younger years performing in comedy theatre and voice acting for a radio drama.
The tendency to turn everyday things into systems, experiments, or optimization problems follows me home too. At this point, I’ve accepted it.
Want to talk shop?
Whether you have a marketing conundrum, an interesting problem, or simply think there might be something worth discussing, I’m always happy to have a conversation.
